OcclusionQuery class?

I am not at home right now, so I can not look for it. But is the engine using this new class from XNA 2.0?

Sounds nifty,but as there's also stated, lets get the game part working first before we dive in and inplement this. I think we need to get a good understanding on how the engine is going to be used before this should be implemented

Yes, you are right! But if you want to see this working, XNA guys released a new sample that I discoverd that are using this. Here: LensFlare

Lens flare and atmospheric distortion are two things I was thinking we should eventually have. It'll be sweet when we get to a point in the engine where we're all working on making it look really nice. Quite a way down the road though.
